This morning was a welcome surprise as far as the weather was concerned. It has been super hot over the last few weeks but today was a beautiful 80ish degrees. So we wound up outside, much to the glee of Brielle. In our journeys we discovered that the apple tree in the back yard is indeed making fruit. So with wild abandon (for about 2 minutes) the little people collected handfuls of crab apples and deposited them on my dining room table.
Rather than just chucking them back into the great outdoors to become "one with the earth" I decided to try my hand at crab apple juice.
I cut them all in half and threw them in a pot with water just to cover them. I boiled them for about 20 minutes (15 would have been better), strained them, added water and sugar and then boiled again for 5 minutes.
I can't say that I will be drinking the juice but I'm sure someone will.
So this was supposed to post Wednesday, but it didn't quite make it. More to come this afterrnoon.
